Missing Matoaka is an alternative audio track to play over a popular movie about Pocahontas on mute. It tells the true story of her life, from an Indigenous perspective. In the reimagined audio, she is the narrator and her story is not a romance, but rather a tragedy.
By retelling Matoaka’s story, we are taking steps to break down stereotypes that hypersexualize and demean Indeginous women and girls.
